Anyone who is coming out of and trying to recover from the experience of an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship knows that it is very challenging. It can be very difficult to stay strong and follow through with a split, even though your intellect may tell you it is the right thing to do. Going back and leaving several times in a common occurrence. Fortunately, there are things you can do to increase your chances of success. Here is Part 1 containing 3 steps you can take to help you successfully recover from your emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship:
1. Address your diet. The mind and body are linked, and the health of one substantially impacts the health of the other. Concentrate your diet around fresh vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains. Reduce your intake of sugars and other highly processed foods as much as possible. If you are having any trouble with appetite, carry around snack foods like jerky, nuts, and fruit and vegetables to eat throughout the day. If you are overeating, be sure to stop eating in the evening by a certain time you set, and don't eat while distracted, such as when you are watching television.
2. Take supplements. Start with a good, food based multivitamin. You may also add calcium supplementation if you do not consume a lot of calcium rich foods. Fish oil is an excellent supplement that has many physical benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties, cardiovascular benefits, and benefits for brain health. 5 HTP (hydroxytryptophan) is a natural antidepressant, and L-Theanine is a good anti-anxiety supplement often used in conjunction with 5 HTP.
3. Implement a doctor-approved exercise program. Focus in cardiovascular exercise, which is ideal for mood elevation. What you want is exercise that raises your heart rate over a sustained period of time. The goal would be 45 minutes of cardio activity, 5 times per week, but any exercise is helpful. Not only does it elevate your mood, but you will achieve greater physical fitness and improve your body image.
