Women and Sexual Health

Good sexual health isn't just about sexual intercourse. Women should know that sexual health encompasses many other aspects like understanding how your body works, knowing what turns you on and what puts you off, accepting your sexual desires and sexual orientation, choosing a form of sexual expression that you are comfortable with, and knowing how to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases (STD s) and unwanted pregnancies.

Women should understand that sexual health begins with accepting your sexuality. Our earliest perceptions of sex are inculcated in childhood by our parents' and society's attitude towards it. Until recently, talking about sex was taboo. So, children, especially females perceive that sex is not a good thing. They hear the disapproving voices discussing homosexuality and they subconsciously register that as well. These false ideas infiltrate into adulthood and can be a mental hurdle to good sexual health. It could lead to feelings of shame or guilt when indulging in sexual activities, a reluctance to fully explore sexual potential, or a negative approach to sex. Your sexuality is an integral part of who you are. By accepting your desires, women can positively enhance their sexual experiences and create a healthier self-image.

As a women and an individual, you should never indulge in anything you are uncomfortable with, especially when it comes to sex. Putting up with sexual activities that hurt, embarrass or humiliate is just plain wrong. If you know what you want from a sexual relationship, and you understand what excites you and gives you pleasure and what doesn't, it empowers you to control your sexuality and choose a form of sexual expression that you are comfortable with.

Good sexual health also means protecting yourself from sexually transmitted diseases (STD s). Women can talk to a trusted gynecologist regarding any fear, doubts and inhibitions they may have. Learning about the various types of STDs and how to prevent them, knowing how to determine if you have one, and what to do if you are infected, is a very important aspect of sexual health. Women should have complete knowledge about STD's to prevent them from any heath risk.

Sexual health is as important as physical or mental well-being. Women can better the quality of their life by fully exploring and understanding their sexuality.

What Men and Women Should Understand About His Sexual Health

If you were to take a survey on the amount of available information regarding sexual health, you would quickly conclude that the topic of female sexual health is discussed much much more than males sexual health in general. When it comes to the more specific niche of anti aging, the topic of sexual health for men becomes a topic for discussion to a much greater extent. However, no matter what the age group happens to be, sexually active men are prone to sexual risk just as well as women. It really does not matter whether the man is heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual male sexual health should not be taken for granted. Issues that could compromise male sexual health should be identified and addressed in order to prevent or minimize safety concerns for both the man and his partner.

Men who are conscious of their diet and physical condition tend to be healthier in general and also healthier sexually. Having a strong cardiovascular system, muscle tone and strong bone structure contributes to good overall health which in turns allows the bodies natural immune system to more readily fight off sexually transmitted infections or diseases. Also, being in a one on one relationship greatly reduces the likelihood of contracting a STD. Especially if neither partner uses intravenous drugs.

Some of the diseases or disorders associated with male sexual health are:

When a male ejaculates prior to or immediately after penetration, this is referred to as premature ejaculation. This can happen when he is either overly aroused, is experiencing anxiety or has lost control. When sperm is somehow forced backwards up into the bladder instead of out of the penis, this called retrograde ejaculation. Finally when the ejaculation occurs so slow that it does not allow orgasm, than this referred to as retarded ejaculation. When the male is not able to become erect or the erection does not last long enough to have sexual intercourse or ejaculation, this condition is referred to as erectile dysfunction or impotence. The causes for this can be medical or psychological.

Some men experience a reduction in sexual desire. There may be a number of different reasons for this to occur. It could be psychological, diabetes, high blood pressure, medications or lowered testosterone. As mentioned above men are usually not prone to sexually transmitted infections or diseases if they practice safe sex, are in a monogamous relationship and do not take intravenous drugs or have sex with a partner who uses intravenous drugs. However, if he does contract a STD or STI, he will experience symptoms such as urination problems, urine with blood, a discharge from is penis, lesions or sores or itching on the genitals.

If a person does experience any of the sexual problems cited above, the best advice is to obtain medical attention immediately. No matter if the underlying cause is physical or psychological, there are numerous therapies that can bring about successful resolution of the problem. In many instances the therapy involves both a physical and psychological component to address not only the physical, but the mental and social impacts of the problem.

Immediate medical assistance must be sought when it comes to problems concerning male sexual health. Diagnosis is usually done through physical and psychological exams, as well as a thorough evaluation of medical history. Treatment usually comes in two phases: medical treatment for physical symptoms and psychological therapy for mental and social factors.

Relationship Psychology - "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus"

The famous book by John Gray dealing with relationship psychology, written some twenty years ago, highlights the differences in the way men and women think and look at the problems that arise in any relationship. Whether you are dating or married there are going to be times when you argue and looking at the psychology behind the differences between male and female thought patterns, will help you to understand the others point of view. You may need some sort of counseling in order for you both to understand how the other thinks and feels.

"The study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, highlighted some of these points, in that most couples, for example, who had been together for only a couple of months between the ages of 18 and 21 avoided intimacy and being dependent on their other half. They also showed levels of anxiety concerning being rejected or abandoned. Those tested all exhibited different degrees of the anxiety over being abandoned. Those who were more secure in themselves had lower levels and others, who were less secure showed increased levels"

The results also laid out the interesting differences in these levels between men and women. On the psychological side it was noticed that when dealing with relationship conflict, most men showed increased levels of anxiety whilst, only women who wished to keep away from change showed increased levels.

So we can see that women are more likely to want guide the reconciliation process to a swift end, as they find it more physiologically rewarding. This is demonstrated in the research which tended to show that the levels of Cortisol in both increased before and during the argument, and women's levels dropped significantly after, unlike most men.

Cortisol is usually referred to as the "stress hormone" as it is involved in response to stress and anxiety typically the highest levels are in the early morning. So be nice to each other when you first wake up.

Men, on the other hand, showed a more continuous reaction to Cortisol so they were more passive towards the reconciliation because the prolonged levels made them less able to face the conflict head on, even when they wanted to have resolution.

Should you decide to look for relationship advice in whatever form you wish, on line, family or relationship counseling, you will receive guidance towards the understanding of how both men and women see and react to situations differently. Having gained an understanding of these differences, as demonstrated in the research, you will be able know how to react to any areas of conflict within your relationship.

A basic understanding of how Relationship Psychology works between couples, and help you to deal with the arguments that happen from time to time, as it will help you to change these arguments round and make things better rather than worse.

Relationship Advice for Women - Discarding Fairy Tale Beliefs to Find a Fulfilling Love Relationship

What do Cinderella, Snow White, True Love by Stevie Wonder, and So High by John Legend have in common? They all promise to fulfill a woman's desire and longing to be loved and lived happily ever after.

Girls believe in fairy tales. They carry those beliefs into relationships and marriage. But what happens when the person they choose falls short of their imagined knight in shining armor? Is there hope? Yes, but not in what they see or imagine.

Living happily ever after is a little girl's dream. She doesn't know how Snow White's or Cinderella's life was after marriage. All she knows is that the birds were singing and everyone was happy. What a great picture for failure!

In real life it takes more than singing birds and happy people to have a successful relationship. The idea of being rescued by a true love should be stored in the play box with all the other toys girls outgrow. Yet somehow, the idea of a knight in shining armor is carried from young girls to teens to young adults to older adults.

How does one survive the broken heart that comes from an unfulfilled relationship or tainted belief(s) from childhood fairy tales? Below are seven tips to victoriously living with the real knight behind the shining armor.

Know your true knight. Daily, love songs entice us to disregard reality and believe the promises of words. Who can compete with the promises of True Love by Stevie Wonder or So High by John Legend? Only One--Jesus Christ!

Know that you are a princess--love and accept yourself so you can love and accept others. Your relationship with Jesus Christ opens another door of existence for you. No longer are you limited by what you see. You are now a princess and have all the rights and privileges of God's kingdom. Whether you feel it or not, you are greatly loved and should therefore love yourself.

Be transparent--remove masks. Some women are experts at camouflaging what they dislike about themselves with make-up and/or clothes, giving them an appearance of perfection. Therefore, it is easy to carry that desire for perfection into relationships. But make-up isn't permanent. At some point it has to be removed. So do clothes. If no one else knows, we know what we're trying to hide.

Learn to forgive. Life is good, especially when things seem to be in order. We can do what we want, when we want until someone wrongs us and refuses to acknowledge or admit it. Everything seems to stop because we want justice but justice seems to have lost her five senses.

Learn to deal with toads, snakes and unfair measuring rods. As long as we live there will be toads, snakes, and unfair measuring rods. Unlike fairy tales, we do not have a fairy god-mother to rescue us from these things. We must realize that God allows certain people, events, and things in our lives to develop our character and our growth in Him.

Enjoy pleasures (fantasies), but hold onto the truth of reality. There's nothing wrong with vacations, retreats, or quiet time. Enjoy them because it's a time of relaxation and rejuvenation. However, don't linger in the land of relaxation and rejuvenation too long. You'll loose the necessary skills for survival in the real world.

Continue moving forward, regardless of circumstances, for emotional, mental, and physical health. Who wants to endure trials? No one. Yet trials are necessary for our spiritual growth.

Which of the above tips do you agree with most? What is your plan for implementing them right away?

Highlight all the tips you have successfully overcome. What was your strategy for success? Write it down so you can share it later.

What was your favorite fairy tale? How is it impacting your life today?

Name other lessons you learned from fairy tales. Are you willing to let them go if they are not productive in your life?

Are you worthy of being loved by a knight in shining armor? Why or why not?

What fairy tale lessons will you pass to your children? What specific lessons will you tell them?

Know your real value. Becoming God's Vessel of Honor helps you see yourself as the true princess you are.

Sexual Health: 3 Macrobiotic Home Remedies for Women

Is your love life suffering from low libido or lack of desire? Macrobiotics offers the natural secrets to revitalizing sexual health and libido.

A macrobiotic diet is a natural way to boost your metabolism and discharge toxins from the body, but there's much more to health than just the foods you eat. A macrobiotic lifestyle focuses on eliminating mucous-causing foods-like dairy products, animal products, and unhealthy fats-from your diet. It also incorporates specific home remedies that cleanse and restore health.

Whole foods, herbs and supplements, and regular exercise are all part of the macrobiotic approach to maintaining all of the body's organs - including women's sexual and reproductive organs. If you're looking for safe, natural, and powerful ways to spice up your love life, the following three macrobiotic home remedies may provide exactly the boost your sexual health needs:

1. Body Scrub

A body scrub not only helps improve sexual and overall vitality, it also increases blood and lymph circulation, removes dead skin cells, opens pores, and cleanses toxins. It's easy to take a few minutes every day to add a body scrub to your regular cleansing routine:

1. Fill a basin with hot water. Wet an organic cotton washcloth and wring it out.

2. Scrub your extremities in a back-and-forth direction toward the heart.

3. Wet the washcloth again, wring it out, and move on to scrub another part of the body.

4. Remember to scrub your face, hands, each finger, and both feet.

The body scrub is most effective as a cleansing aid when it's done twice each day, in the morning and evening.

2. Daikon Hip Bath

Dried daikon leaves are a natural remedy that helps dissolve mucous and stagnation in the reproductive organs. This hip bath is good for stimulating the metabolism and increasing libido. It's recommended for all women's health disorders, including ovarian and uterine diseases, vaginal discharge, painful menstruation, and low libido.

1. Add 5 bunches of dried daikon leaves to 5 quarts of pure water.

2. Bring to a boil and simmer 20 minutes.

3. Add ? cup sea salt.

4. Pour the hot liquid into a bathtub. Add warm water until it reaches a level that will be waist height when you're sitting in the tub.

5. Immerse yourself and cover the bathtub with a large towel to promote perspiration.

6. Sit in the daikon bath for 10-20 minutes.

7. After the hip bath, it's best to go straight to sleep.

Do the bath for 7-10 consecutive days. It's best to schedule the hip bath for immediately before bed and at least an hour after eating.

3. Umeboshi Douche

It's possible to dissolve mucous stagnation in the reproductive organs by douching with a macrobiotic remedy made from umeboshi plums immediately after a daikon hip bath. Umeboshi douche helps to reduce vaginal discharge and inflammation.

1. Boil 3 umeboshi plums in 1 quart of pure water for 20 minutes.

2. Turn off heat and cool to body temperature.

3. Strain one cup of liquid and use as a gentle douche.

4. Repeat daily with the remaining liquid for ten days.

These simple but effective macrobiotic home remedies are a powerful way to help boost libido and improve your sexual wellness and the health of your intimate relationships.

Singles - A New Mental Health "Diagnosis" of Self Blame For Single Women

One of the biggest health risks for always single women in their 30s and 40s is Self Blame. Research shows that women are more prone to blaming themselves while men are more likely to project blame onto others. So, if you are thinking about a relationship, what you have is both the man and the woman blaming the woman!

As a family therapist for 38 years, university professor, and author of several books on single women, I see the destructive fall-out from women blaming themselves for not being married. In one of my studies, when the women were asked if they were single by choice, almost exactly half said yes, leaving the other half saying no. Yet, when asked to explain their response, they all basically said the same thing: they were single by choice because they did not like their choices in the men they were meeting.

The problem is not just that too many men are not willing to make the commitment to marriage. It's too many men are not willing to make the commitment to do what it takes to have a healthy relationship.

And, what is that? It's two people willing to talk about issues as they come up, addressing, together, potential problems - before they become big problems. Anyone can be loving; but learning to deal productively with relationship problems is the most challenging aspect of relationships. Women have been socialized to be the caretaker of relationships, to be on guard for potential problems and resolve them before they become serious. They may not do it well, but they make the effort.

Unfortunately, men are socialized with a different mandate, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." So, too few men are skilled or willing to learn how to work through issues that strengthen a relationship.

Thus, there are more single women then men ready for a healthy relationship. And they are less willing to be with a man who isn't. Without understand, too many women assume if they are not meeting a man they want to be with, it must be their fault, there must be something wrong with them.

And, the worse thing is that even when women understand that men are not carrying their share of relationships, too many of them still come back to blaming themselves. As Sara, a woman in my study said, "I'd rather think the problem is me; then I can do something about it." This self blame is what makes the upcoming documentary, Seeking Happily Ever After (seekinghappilyeverafter.com) so poignant. Producers Kerry David, of L.A. and Michelle Cover, of Boston, go beneath the bubbly surface of Sex and the City, talking to hundreds of single women. They are fleshing out a fuller picture of the 30 something single women and asking if women are living their "happily ever after" or someone else's.

One hopeful benefit to this documentary will be the decrease of the overwhelming mental health diagnosis for so many single women, the diagnosis of ...Self Blame.

Path #3 to Infidelity - Do Men and Women Recognize Attractive Threats to Your Relationship?

A report in Men's Health Magazine is a must read for every man and women who wants to affair-proof your relationship. Find out how men and women learn to recognize and guard against attractive threats to your intimate relationship as you read my summary of this Men's Health report:

Path #3 To Infidelity: You don't know how to recognize or guard against attractive threats to your relationship

Researchers in a McGill University study found that men and women reacted differently when asked to evaluate "attractive alternatives" to their intimate relationship.

When women were presented with photos of an attractive person of the opposite sex, women avoided the photo. Men didn't.

When women were asked to imagine an interaction with an attractive classmate of the opposite sex, women increased their thoughts of commitment and threat. Men didn't.

McGill researchers suspect that women strive to be the protectors and gatekeepers of their relationships, or that women view threats to their relationship as personal. Whereas men tend to let their guard down, possibly because they don't define themselves by their relationship as much.

The remedy:

McGill Researchers noted that when women see an attractive alternative moving in, they tend to use if-then contingencies that spark their automatic defense mechanisms. For example:

If he comes over here, then I'll excuse myself to go get a drink.

Researchers found that when men develop their own if-then plan before entering a situation with many other women, men are more likely to perceive threats and guard their relationship against these "attractive alternatives".

Will you develop your own if-then plan to protect your intimate relationship against the threat of an affair?

Women in Abusive Relationships - The Issue in Plague Proportions That Hardly Ever Gets Mentioned

Women in abusive relationships is a scourge that is a plague throughout the world.

Before I proceed I need to comment on the widely held belief that abounds today that abuse in relationships is as likely to be perpetrated by women as it is by men.

My comment is - poppycock. In other words, this is nonsense. The figures we constantly hear are that 1 in 3 women all around the world are in abusive relationships, and that does not include the broader definition of all the non physical aspects of abuse.

It diverts our attention away from dealing with the issues associated with women being abused in relationships. So little has been achieved to this point in time and this red herring gets thrown into the ring to distract us.

In my view it is an indication of part of the problem. It attempts to contradict the vastness of the issue of women in abusive relationships, and demonstrates how those who put forward this belief, are blind to the consequences.

This is not to deny that some women are abusive in relationships, but it is not comparable.

In all my years as a counsellor, I saw women constantly who were living in absolute fear of the men they were living with. I have never seen one man who has claimed he is living in fear of the woman he was living with.

It never ceases to amaze me how the issue of women in abusive relationships gets such little attention.

We keep hearing that 1 in 3 women experience physical abuse in their relationships, not to mention all the other abuse that is experienced as well.

We hear that 3 women a day are killed by a male partner in the US. In Australia it is 1 every 5 days.

Being a woman in an abusive relationship, is still the biggest threat of injury to women - more than heart attacks, cancer, strokes, car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.

Statistics tell us the most dangerous place for a woman to be is in her own home - not some dark alley, or seedy neighborhood, or a parking lot.

Yet the warning that is regularly put forward is to be wary in such places - and also of strangers.

In addition, today, we are bombarded by the belief that we are at the mercy of terrorists and we need to be alert to the possibility of being targeted. Billions of dollars is being spent on our protection.

The outcomes of women being in abusive relationships highlights the contrast, and the evidence against, the panic associated with so-called terrorism.

Terrorism in the home throughout the world, is gigantic in comparison, yet barely gets a mention, and peanuts is spent on dealing with it in any meaningful way.

Any money that is spent on the issues associated with women in abusive relationships, tends to be on what I would call band aiding issues.

That is to say, it is usually spent on paying for women to live in safe houses and the expenses associated with getting them to that point.

Whilst this is necessary and a good thing, it plays no part in creating any real changes that are necessary to make a difference.

Some governments have policies claiming to aim at eliminating and preventing abuse in relationships, yet have nothing more in place than indicated above.

A major campaign is required as a start for overcoming the problem of women in abusive relationships.

The community generally needs to be made aware of the widespread nature of the problem. This needs to be done by making contact with a broad cross section of media outlets and getting them to do interviews with those who have the information available.

Articles about the problem of women in abusive relationships need to be submitted to these outlets as well. In addition talks must be organized with a whole range of people such as corporate groups, schools, government departments etc., etc.

The issue of women being in abusive relationships is increasingly being recognized as a serious violation of basic human rights.

Today, international organizations, such as the World Health Organization, regard the prevention of abuse in relationships as a high priority and there is a need for urgent action.

A World Health Organization report demonstrates that women being in abusive relationships is widespread and deeply ingrained, and has serious impacts on women's health and well-being.

According to Amnesty International, violence against women in relationships is the greatest human rights scandal of our times.

How Long Term Relationships Benefit Men and Women

As a society, we often idolize stable and long term relationships, casting them as the foundation and bedrock upon which our society is built, and a source of healthy societal participants who help ground our values and raise kids in stable homes. Yet the benefits of long term relationships, whether they be marriages or not, are wide, and also include health benefits as well. Men and women who are in stable relationships tend to live longer, suffer from less heart disease, lung disease, Alzheimer's and diabetes, and also tend to have less bad habits and vices. Yet the benefits are not equal, and men benefit in ways that women do not, and vice versa. In today's article we're going to take a look at the health benefits of long term relationships for both men and women, and identify some areas of disparity where one gender benefits more than the other.

One area of clear disparity lies in the realm of depression. This common malady has recently begun to be taken seriously by the medical community as an actual physical ailment and no longer simply as a sign of moodiness or intractability. With the greater level of scrutiny has come the realization that women tend to benefit much more from marriage or cohabitation, as their rates of depression drop by two thirds when in such a relationship. Another area where they benefit lies in bipolar disorder, with women in stable relationships suffering from much milder attacks than their single counterparts.

It has recently been accepted that society has become infinitely more stressful for your average citizen, and that stress itself can be a killer. From increasing blood pressure and the chance of heart disease to general fatigue and insomnia, stress can truly lower the quality of living. Yet studies of people in relationships have found that married men suffer from less stress than single men when faced with similar challenges, as evidenced by their lower spikes in cortisol. Women, whether married or single, show no difference in their responses.

Finally when it comes to sex men and women both report being much happier in the a relationship than when they are single. Men however report that they are much happier when married, while women are only moderately happier. The reasons for this are varied and complex, perhaps dealing with quantity and not quality, but regardless men seem to enjoy themselves more when married than their partners do.
